MY IKEBANA PATH
I began practicing Sogetsu ikebana in 2005. As a graphic designer, I was naturally attracted by the bold simplicity of the art form. Quickly this attraction developed into a passion. I hold a Jonin Somu certificate and teach at the Irvine Fine Arts Center in Irvine, California. It gives me tremendous joy to introduce my students to the world of Sogetsu, help them develop their skills, and guide them through their practice. I continue my studies under Haruko Takeichi, Riji. I am an active member of the Sogetsu Los Angeles Branch and currently serve on the Board of Directors as Secretary.
My ikebana work has been exhibited at:
RENKA DESIGN GROUP: BOUQUETS to ART
Bouquets to Art is the annual floral exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco, where top floral designers create installations inspired by the museum’s permanent collection. Proceeds support exhibitions, conservation, and educational programs.
In 2007, Rachel Johnson, Ulrike Kotak, and I founded Renka Design Group to collaborate on large-scale ikebana displays for public spaces. For 18 years, we’ve been honored to exhibit at Bouquets to Art, (and other venues) showcasing our unique artistry and celebrating our enduring friendship. This cherished tradition reflects our shared passion for ikebana and creative collaboration.
